Which one of the following statements is not correct regarding phosphine?

Which one of the following statements is not correct regarding phosphine?
  1. It is a weak base
  2. It reacts with \(\mathrm{CuSO}_4\) solution to form \(\mathrm{CuHPO}_4\)
  3. It is formed by the reaction of \(\mathrm{Ca}_3 \mathrm{P}_2\) with \(\mathrm{HCl}\)
  4. It is used in smoke screeens

Solution

Phosphine gives a black precipitate of cupric phosphide, when passed through \(\mathrm{CuSO}_4\) solution. \(3 \mathrm{CuSO}_4+2 \mathrm{PH}_3 \longrightarrow \mathrm{Cu}_3 \mathrm{P}_2+3 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{SO}_4\) \(\mathrm{PH}_3\) is a weak base. It is prepared by as follows : \(\mathrm{Ca}_3 \mathrm{P}_2+6 \mathrm{HCl} \longrightarrow 2 \mathrm{PH}_3+3 \mathrm{CaCl}_2\) \(\mathrm{PH}_3\) is used in smoke screens. Hence, option (b) is incorrect. While other options are correct.
