Which of the following will not be soluble in sodium hydrogen carbonate?

Which of the following will not be soluble in sodium hydrogen carbonate?
  1. Benzenesulphonic acid
  2. Benzoic acid
  3. o-Nitrophenol
  4. 2, 4, 6-trinitrophenol

Solution

A.31.PNG
2.4.6-Trinitro phenol, benzoic acid and benzene sulphonic acid are sobuble in NaHO3 .
Acid+NaHCO3salt+H2CO3
Reaction is possible in forward direction if acid is more acidic then H2CO3.
O-nitrophenol is less acidic than H2CO3 so it is not soluble in sodium hydrogen carbonate.
H2CO3 is more acidic then and reaction proceed in strong acid to weak acid so, above reaction is not feasible forward direction
