Which of the following statement about aniline is false? A. Aniline is a strong base than ammonia. B. Aniline is a less basic than methylamine. C. \(\mathrm{p} K_b\) of aniline is more than that of ammonia. D. Aniline reacts with bromine water to form a white precipitate.
  1. \(\mathrm{A}\)
  2. B
  3. \(\mathrm{C}\)
  4. D

Solution

According to Lewis theory, the species which easily loses a pair of electron is Lewis base, lone pair on nitrogen in aniline are involved in resonance with the benzene ring and therefore not available for donation to that extent as in \(\mathrm{NH}_3\). Since, ammonia can lose easily electron pair while aniline cannot, thus ammonia is a stronger base than aniline. Thus, statement (A) is false. Hence, the correct option is (a). ~
