When tertiary butanol $\left(3^{\circ}ight.$ alcohol $)$ is passed over heated $\mathrm{Cu}$ at $573 \mathrm{~K}$, isobutene is formed through elimination reaction. Since, water gets eliminated, so it is also considered as dehydration reaction. The $2^{\circ}$ alcohol and $1^{\circ}$ alcohol on the other hand gives ketone and aldehyde respectively in similar reaction.
