Which of the following is not arranged in the correct sequence?

Which of the following is not arranged in the correct sequence?
  1. MO,M2O3,MO2,M2O5- Decreasing basic nature
  2. Sc, V, Cr, Mn - Increasing number of oxidation states
  3. d5,d3,d1,d4- Increasing magnetic moment
  4. Mn2+,Fe2+,Cr2+,Co2+- decreasing stability

Solution

We know that as d-subshell possess five orbitals, and it can accommodate maximum10 electrons i.e. 2 in each orbital and also magnetic moment can be given by

μ=n(n+2)

from the above formula we can observe that as the number of unpaired electrons increases, the magnetic moment also increases.

Hence, the correct order of increasing magnetic moment will be

d5>d4>d3>d1
