Which of the following compounds has difficulty in breaking the $\mathrm{C}-\mathrm{Cl}$ bond?

Which of the following compounds has difficulty in breaking the $\mathrm{C}-\mathrm{Cl}$ bond?
  1. o-Nitrochlorobenzene
  2. m-Nitrochlorobenzene
  3. p-Nitrochlorobenzene
  4. 2,4,6 -trinitrochlorobenzene

Solution

Greater the number of electron withdrawing groups at o/p position, greater is the reactivity of haloarenes towards substitution of halogen atom. Electron withdrawing group at meta position has practically no effect on reactivity. Hence breaking the $\mathrm{C}-\mathrm{Cl}$ bond is the most difficult in m -nitrochlorobenzene.
