Which hormone causes dilation of blood vessels, increased oxygen consumption and glucogenesis?
  1. glucagon
  2. $\mathrm{ACTH}$
  3. insulin
  4. adrenaline

Solution

Adrenaline (epinephrine) is a hormone produced by the adrenal medulla and is secreted in great amounts during emotional stress. It elevates the glucose level in the blood stream (by glycogenolysis) which is accompanied by an increase in oxygen consumption, body temperature and heat production. Adrenaline also causes an increase in the flow of blood by dilating the blood vessels. Insulin and glucagon regulates the glucose level in blood. Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) is a hormone that stimulates the production of cortisol.
