When two displacements represented by y1=a sin(ωt) and y2=bcosωt are superimposed the motion is:

Solution

y1=asinωt
y2=bcosωt=bsinωt+π2
Amplitude A=a2+b2+2abcosπ2
A=a2+b2


Since the frequency for both motion are same, then the resultant motion will be SHM.
