When the temperature of 2 moles of an ideal gas is increased by 20°C at constant pressure, find the work involved in the process.
  1. 5R
  2. 40R
  3. 15R
  4. 20R

Solution

We know that for ideal gas

PV=nRT

Now taking small changes

(PV)=nRT

as pressure remains constant. So

PV=nRT

Work done in increasing the kinetic energy of gas is given by

W=PV

From the above expression, work can be modified as

W=nRΔTW=2×R×20W=40 R
