When the hydrogen ion concentration H + changes by a factor of 1000 , the value of pH of the solution

When the hydrogen ion concentration H+changes by a factor of 1000 , the value of pH of the solution
  1. increases by 1000 units
  2. decreases by 3 units
  3. decreases by 2 units
  4. increases by 2 units

Solution

Let the initial concentration of H+ be 1

 H+i = 1  pH = 0

It changes by 1000 units

 H+f = 103  pH = -3

So, pH decreases by 3 units.
