When the distance separations between the slit and screen is doubled, the angular separation between the fringes in slit diffraction experiment.
  1. First increase and then decreases
  2. Remains same
  3. Increases
  4. Decreases

Solution

Angular separation is $\theta=\frac{\beta}{D}=\frac{\left(\frac{D \lambda}{d}\right)}{D}=\frac{\lambda}{d}$ Since $\theta$ is independent of $D$, angular separation would remain the same.
