Fullerenes can be made in a carbon arc, where two graphite rods are placed with a small gap between them in an inert gas below atmospheric pressure.
The carbon of the rods evaporate and convert to give fullerene, where $\mathrm{C}_{60}$ is main product and $\mathrm{C}_{70}$ is obtained in small amount.
