When a ball is thrown with a velocity of 50 m s-1 at an angle 30° with the horizontal, it remains in the air for seconds. (take g=10 m s-2
  1. 5
  2. 2.5
  3. 1.25
  4. 0.625

Solution

The vertical component of velocity is, 50sin30° therefore, u=50sin30° and when the ball will be thrown vertically the net displacement along the vertical direction of body will be zero, since body will again come to ground after time t.

Now using the equation of uniform motion, s=ut+12at2

0=50sin30°t+12-gt25t2-50sin30°t=0          g=10 m s-2t5t-25=0

Solving the equation for t,

t=0, and t=5 s

Thus, the ball will remain in air for 5 s
