When 20 g of CaCO3  is treated with 20 g HCl, the mass of CO2 formed would be

  1. 10 g
  2. 8.8 g
  3. 22.2 g
  4. 20 g

Solution

So according to the question when the reaction takes place

CaCO3+2HClCaCl2+H2O+CO21mol2 mol1 mol100 g73 g44 g

Let CaCO3 be completely consumed in the reaction

So that

100 g of CaCO3 give 44 g of CO2

Thus,20 g of CaCO3 give

44100 × 20 g = 8.8 g CO2
