What was the outcome of Jan Ingenhousz's experiment with an aquatic plant?
  1. Small bubbles were formed around the green parts in bright sunlight
  2. Small bubbles were formed around the green parts in the dark
  3. No bubbles were formed around the green parts in bright sunlight or in the dark
  4. Large bubbles were formed around the green parts in bright sunlight

Solution

In an elegant experiment with an aquatic plant, Jan Ingenhousz showed that in bright sunlight, small bubbles were formed around the green parts while in the dark they did not. Later he identified these bubbles to be of oxygen, hence showing that it is only the green part of the plants that could release oxygen.
