The given reaction is for the industrial preparation methanol from a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. In the reaction the gaseous mixture is subjected to 200 atmosphere and then passed over heated catalyst mixture of \(\mathrm{ZnO}\) and \(\mathrm{Cr}_2 \mathrm{O}_3\) kept at \(573-673 \mathrm{~K}\). This reaction results the formation of methanol vapours which are then condensed to liquid state.
\(\mathrm{CO}+2 \mathrm{H}_2 \xrightarrow[\substack{200-300 \mathrm{~atm}, 573-673 \mathrm{~K}}]{\mathrm{ZnO}-\mathrm{Cr}_2 \mathrm{O}_3(X)} \mathrm{CH}_3 \mathrm{OH}\)
