What is the ratio of kinetic energies of 3 g of hydrogen and 4 g of oxygen at a certain temperature?
What is the ratio of kinetic energies of 3 g of hydrogen and 4 g of oxygen at a certain temperature?
- $3: 4$
- $6: 1$
- $12: 1$
- $1: 12$
Solution
At same temperature,
$\begin{aligned}
& \frac{\mathrm{KE}_1}{\mathrm{KE}_2}=\frac{\mathrm{n}_{\mathrm{H}}}{\mathrm{n}_{\mathrm{O}_2}} \\
& \eta_{\mathrm{H}}=\frac{3}{2}=1.5 \text { moles } \\
& \eta_{\mathrm{O}_2}=\frac{4}{32}=0.125 \text { moles } \\
& \frac{\mathrm{KE}_1}{\mathrm{KE}_2}=\frac{1.5}{0.125}=\frac{12}{1} \Rightarrow 12: 1
\end{aligned}$
