Cortisol is the main glucocorticoid in our body. It stimulates gluconeogenesis, lipolysis and proteolysis; and inhibits cellular uptake and utilisation of amino acids. Cortisol also plays a role in maintaining the cardio-vascular system and the kidney functions. It produces anti-inflammatory reactions and suppresses the immune response and stimulates the RBC production.
