When phenol treated with chloroform $\left(\mathrm{CHCl}_3\right)$ in the presence of aqueous sodium hydroxide $(\mathrm{NaOH})$, product will be 2-hydroxy benzaldehyde (salicylaldehyde).

When phenol react with $\mathrm{CO}_2, \mathrm{NaOH}$, it gives salicylic acid (o-hydroxy benzoic acid).
