Two wires of same length and material are stretched by same force. If their masses are in the ratio $4: 3$, then the ratio of their elongations is
  1. $\frac{3}{4}$
  2. $\frac{5}{3}$
  3. $\frac{1}{3}$
  4. $\frac{2}{3}$

Solution

When Two wires have the same material and length, but their masses are in the ratio of $4: 3$. If they are stretched by the same force, their elongation will be in the ratio of $3: 4$.This depends on the stress and strain concept. We know that $\mathrm{m} 1 / \mathrm{m} 2=\mathrm{a} 1 / \mathrm{a} 2=4 / 3$ and length is directly proportional to area so the answer will be $3 / 4=3: 4$
