The velocity of a transverse wave on string is given by $v=\sqrt{\frac{T}{\rho A}}$ $v \propto \frac{1}{\sqrt{A}}$ or $v \propto \frac{1}{R}$ or $v \propto \frac{1}{R}$ Therefore, transverse wave travels faster on thinner wire.
