Two consecutive harmonics of an air column in pipe closed at one end are of frequencies $150 \mathrm{~Hz}$ and $250 \mathrm{~Hz}$. The fundament frequency of an air column is
  1. $25 \mathrm{~Hz}$
  2. $75 \mathrm{~Hz}$
  3. $100 \mathrm{~Hz}$
  4. $50 \mathrm{~Hz}$

Solution

In a pipe closed at one end only odd harmonics of the fundamental are produced, i.e., $50 \mathrm{~Hz}, 150 \mathrm{~Hz}, 250 \mathrm{~Hz}$. Hence fundamental frequency is $50 \mathrm{~Hz}$
