Twenty seven drops of same size are charged at 220 V each. They combine to form a bigger drop. Calculate the potential of the bigger drop.
  1. 660 V
  2. 1320 V
  3. 1980 V
  4. 1520 V

Solution

The radius of the bigger drop will be 43πR3=27×43πr3R=3r,  the potential of the small drop, V=Kqr. The potential of the big drop Q=nq, V'=KQRV'=KnqR

As we know,V' =n2/3V=(27)2/3×220=1980 V
