The velocity-time graph of an object moving along a straight line is shown in figure. What is the distance covered by the object between $t=0$ to $t=4 \mathrm{~s}$ ?
  1. $30\mathrm{~m}$
  2. $11\mathrm{~m}$
  3. $10\mathrm{~m}$
  4. $13\mathrm{~m}$

Solution

Distance travelled = displacement when direction of velocity remains constant
$\begin{aligned} \Rightarrow \text { Distance } & =\text { Area } \\ & =\frac{1}{2}(2 \mathrm{~s}+4 \mathrm{~s})(10 \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{s}) \\ & =30 \mathrm{~m}\end{aligned}$
