The values of λ and μ for which the system of linear equations x+y+z=2x+2 y+3 z=5x+3y+λz=μ has infinitely many solutions, are respectively
  1. 6 and 8

Solution

For infinite number of solutions, all determinants D, D1, D2 and D3 must be zero and planes represented by these equations should not be parallel. So, we have,

D=11112313λ=0 λ=5

D1=211523μ3λ=0

D2=1211531μλ=0

And D3=11212513μ=0 μ=8
