The temperature of equal masses of three different liquids x, y and z are 10°C, 20°C and 30°C respectively. The temperature of mixture when x is mixed with y is 16°C and that when y is mixed with z is 26°C. The temperature of mixture when x and z are mixed will be :
  1. 25.62°C
  2. 20.28°C
  3. 28.32°C
  4. 23.84°C

Solution

When A&B are mixed

m1 S1(16-10)=m2 S2(20-16)

6 m1 S1=4 m2 S2    .......(1)

When B&C are mixed

m2 S2(26-20)=m3 S3(30-26)

6 m2 S2=4 m3 S3 ...........(2)

From equation (1) and (2)

9 m1 S1=4 m3 S3

When A&C are mixed

m1 S1( T-10)=m3 S3(30-T)

T=30m3S3+10m1S1m1S1+m3S3

T=103m3S3+m1S1m3S3+m1S1

T=103m3 S3+49 m3 S3m3 S3+49 m3 S3

T=10×3113

=23.84°C
