The sum of the first 20 terms of the series 5+11+19+29+41+... is

Solution

Let the given series be Sn, then we can write as

Sn=5+11+19+29+41+............+TnSn=        5+11+19+29+41+......+Tn-1+Tn

Subtracting above equations, we get

0=5+6+8+10+....-Tn

Tn=5+n-1212+n-22

Tn=5+n-1n+4

Tn=n2+3n+1

So,

S20=n=120Tn

S20=n=120n2+3n+1

S20=20×21×416+3×20×212+20

S20=3520
