The speed of a wave produced in water is given by ν=λagbρc. Where λ, g and ρ are wavelength of wave, acceleration due to gravity and density of water respectively. The values of a, b and c respectively, are

Solution

The dimensional form of velocity can be written as

v=λagbρc

M0LT-1=LaLT-2bML-3c

Comparing the exponents for M,L,T,

For M, Mc=M0For L,La+b-3c=L1For T,T-2b=T-1

So,

c=0 ...(i)a+b-3c=1   ...(ii)-2b=-1 ...(iii)

From equations (i),(ii),(iii),

a=12, b=12,c=0
