The solution of the differential equation 2xdydx-y=4 represents a family of
  1. Ellipses
  2. Parabolas
  3. Straight lines
  4. Circles

Solution

Given differential equation is 2xdydx-y=4..

2xdydx=4+y

2dy4+y=dxx

On integrating both sides, we get

24+ydy=1xdx

2log4+y=logx+logc

Using loga+logb=logab and logan=nloga,

log4+y2=logxc

y+32=cx, which is of the form y-k2=4ax-h and this is the general equation of a parabola.

Thus, the equation y+32=cx, represents a family of  parabolas.
