The shortest distance between the lines x - 4 4 = y + 2 5 = z + 3 3 and x - 1 3 = y - 3 4 = z - 4 2 is

The shortest distance between the lines x-44=y+25=z+33 and x-13=y-34=z-42 is
  1. 63
  2. 26
  3. 62
  4. 36

Solution

Given:

x-44=y+25=z+33

x-13=y-34=z-42

So,

a1=4i^-2j^-3k^a2=i^+3j^+4k^

So,

a2-a1=-3i^+5j^+7k^

And,

b1×b2=i^j^k^453342=-2i^+j^+k^

b1×b2=-22+12+12=6

Shortest distance between the lines

=a2-a1·b1×b2b1×b2

=-3i^+5j^+7k^·-2i^+j^+k^6

=6+5+76=6×36 units

=36 units

Hence this is the correct option.
