The pressure P 1 and density d 1 of diatomic gas γ = 7 5 changes suddenly to P 2 > P 1 and d 2…

The pressure P1 and density d1 of diatomic gas γ=75 changes suddenly to P2>P1 and d2 respectively during an adiabatic process. The temperature of the gas increases and becomes____times of its initial temperature.

(given d2 d1=32)

Solution

For adiabatic process, PVγ= constant

We know, density d=massVolume.

Then, we have Pdγ= constant

Given here, d2 d1=32 and γ=75.

The ratio P1P2=d1 d2γ=13275=1128

The ratio of temperature using ideal gas equation is T1 T2=P1 V1P2 V2=1128×32=14

Thus, T2=4T1.
