The pressure and volume of an ideal gas are related as PV32=K (Constant). The work done when the gas is taken from state AP1, V1, T1 to state BP2, V2, T2 is :
  1. 2(P1V1-P2V2)
  2. 2(P2V2-P1V1)
  3. 2P1V1P2V2
  4. 2P2V2P1V1

Solution

For PVx= constant, work done by the gas is given by,

W=nRΔT1x=P2V2-P1V11x.

Here x=32, therefore we can write

W=P2V2P1V112

=2P1V1P2V2
