The position-time graphs for two students A and B returning from the school to their homes are shown in figure.

(A) A lives closer to the school

(B) B lives closer to the school

(C) A takes lesser time to reach home

(D) A travels faster than B

(E) B travels faster than A

Choose the correct answer from the options given below

  1. A, C and D only
  2. A, C and E only
  3. B and E only
  4. A and E only

Solution

From the position time graph the velocity is found out by the slope of the line. The slope is given by x2-x1t2-t1.

The slope of B is greater than A. Hence, the velocity of B is greater than A. As can be seen from the graph XA<XB. So A lives closer to the school and VB>VA. Hence, this is the correct option.
