The path difference between two interfering light waves meeting at point on the screen is $\left(\frac{87}{2}\right) \lambda$. The band obtained at that point is
  1. 87th bright band
  2. 44th dark band
  3. 87th dark band
  4. 44 th bright band

Solution

Path difference $=87\left(\frac{\lambda}{2}\right)$. $\therefore$ we get a dark point and $(2 n-1) \frac{\lambda}{2}=87\left(\frac{\lambda}{2}\right)$ $\therefore 2 n=88$ $\therefore \mathrm{n}=44$ $\therefore$ we get $44^{\text {th }}$ dark band.
