The most suitable reagent for the conversion of R - CH 2 - OH R - CHO is :
  1. KMnO4
  2. K2Cr2O7
  3. CrO3
  4. PCC (Pyridinium Chlorochromate)

Solution

• KMnO4 will oxidize the alcohol to carboxylic acid.
• K2Cr2O7 will also make carboxylic acids.
• CrO3 in acetic acid is Jones reagent, it also converts alcohols to carboxylic acid.
• PCC is a weak oxidising agent. It limits the oxidation to the aldehyde.
