The maximum number of electrons present in an orbital with n=4,l=3 is
  1. 06
  2. 14
  3. 10
  4. 2

Solution

There are four types of orbitals which present in atoms namely s, p, d and f. The orbitals are having their quantum number which represent the maximum number of electrons and their orientation, spin of the electrons. The given values n=4, l=3 represents the principal and azimuthal quantum number values of 4f-subshell which has seven orbitals. In every orbital, maximum number of electrons can be fitted is 2, one with +12 clockwise and another with -12 anti-clockwise spin rotation. Thus, there are two electrons can be present in the given orbital.
