The major product(s) formed in the following reaction sequence is (are)
  1. $2 \mathrm{CH}_3 \mathrm{COOH}$
  2. $\mathrm{CH}_3 \mathrm{COCOCH}_3$
  3. $2 \mathrm{CH}_3 \mathrm{CHO}$

Solution

When 2, 3-dibromobutane react with $\mathrm{Zn} / \mathrm{Cu}$ in the presence of heat, it forms trans-but-2-ene. Further $\mathrm{O}_3$ and $\mathrm{Zn} / \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}$ is used for reductive ozonolysis of trans-but-2-ene and forms 2 moles of $\mathrm{CH}_3 \mathrm{CHO}$ i.e., acetaldehyde.
