Resonance can be seen in molecules having conjugated double bond or in molecules having at least one lone pair of electrons and one double bond. Resonance effects are of two types viz $+R$ effect and $-R$ effect. $-\mathrm{NO}_2$ is electron withdrawing, so it will show $-R$ effect.
