The reaction is known by the name Schotten-Baumen reaction. It is a benzoylation reaction. When aniline is treated with benzoyl chloride in the presence of NaOH, benzanilide (N-benzoylaniline) is obtained.This reaction is given by primary and secondary amines.
Benzoylation of aniline is an example of Schotten-Baumen reaction.
