The electron configuration of F e 3 + is (atomic number of F e = 26 )

The electron configuration of Fe3+ is (atomic number of Fe=26)
  1. [Ar]3d54s1
  2. [Ar]3d64s0
  3. [Ar]3d54s0
  4. [Ar]3d64s2

Solution

We know that atomic number of Fe is 26 and its a d- block element and it belongs to 4th period and 8th group also the general electronic configuration for d-block elements is (n1)d110ns12 where n is the period number.

So, for the ferrous atom the configuration will be

Fe = Ar3d64s2

Now, at the 3rd excited state the electronic configuration of ferrous ion will be

Fe3+ = Ar3d54s0
