The electrolytic reduction of nitrobenzene in strongly acidic medium produces:
  1. p-aminophenol
  2. Azoxybenzene
  3. Azobenzene
  4. Aniline

Solution

The electrolytic reduction of nitrobenzene in an acidic medium gives phenyl hydroxyl amine. Since the medium is acidic so phenyl hydroxylamine undergoes rearrangement reaction and gives p-aminophenol.

Thus, under a strongly acidic medium, nitrobenzene on electrolytic reduction gives  p-aminophenol.
