The eccentric angle of a point on the ellipse x2+3y2=6 lying at a distance of 2 units from its centre is
  1. π6
  2. π4
  3. π3
  4. π2

Solution

The given equation of ellipse can be written in the form x262+y222=1.

Now let the eccentric angle of the point be θ, then its co-ordinates are 6cosθ,2sinθ.

Since the distance of the point from the centre is 2 units

 6cosθ-02+2sinθ-02=4

6cos2θ+21-cos2θ=44cos2θ=2

  cosθ=±12      θ=π4 or 3π4
