The distance between the two points A and A' which lie on y=2 such that both the line segments AB and A'B (where B is the point 2,3) subtend angle π4 at the origin, is equal to

Solution

Let the slope of OB be m1=32

and the slope of OA be m2=2x

Now angle between two lines, tanπ4=32-2x1+62x

i.e. 32-2x1+62x=13x-42x+6=1

3x-4=±2x+6

x1=10, x2=-25

AA'=10+25=525
