The density of material in CGS system of units is $4 \mathrm{~g} / \mathrm{cm}^{3} .$ In a system of units in which unit of length is $10 \mathrm{~cm}$ and unit of mass is $100 \mathrm{~g}$, then what will be the value of density of material?
  1. 0.4
  2. 40
  3. 400
  4. 0.04

Solution

In CGS system, $d=4 \frac{\mathrm{g}}{\mathrm{cm}^{3}}$
The unit of mass is $100 \mathrm{~g}$ and unit of length is $10 \mathrm{~cm}$, so density $=\frac{4\left(\frac{100 \mathrm{~g}}{100}\right)}{\left(\frac{10}{10} \mathrm{~cm}\right)^{3}}$
$=\frac{\left(\frac{4}{100}\right)}{\left(\frac{1}{10}\right)^{3}} \frac{(100 \mathrm{~g})}{(10 \mathrm{~cm})^{3}}$
$=\frac{4}{100} \times(10)^{3} \cdot \frac{100 \mathrm{~g}}{(10 \mathrm{~cm})^{3}}$
$=40$ unit
