The correct statement(s) about the compound, $\mathrm{H}_3 \mathrm{C}(\mathrm{HO})…
- the total number of stereoisomers possible for $X$ is 6
- the total number of diastereomers possible for $X$ is 3
- if the stereochemistry about the double bond in $X$ is trans, the number of enantiomers possible for $X$ is 4
- if the stereochemistry about the double bond in $X$ is cis, the number of enantiomers possible for $X$ is 2
Solution

Xhas six stereoisomers (I-VI). The total number of diasteromers of $X$ are more than three e.g, I + II, I + III, I + IV, I + V, I + VI etc. When stereochemistry at double bond is trans it has only two enantiomers (V and VI). When stereochemistry at doubld bond is cis, it has two enantiomers II and III. Hence, only $A$ and $D$ are correct answers
