The correct order of acidic strength among the following is
  1. FCH2CO2H>C6H5CO2H>CH3CH2CHClCO2H>CH3CO2H
  2. C6H5CO2H>CH3CO2H>CH3CH2CHClCO2H>FCH2CO2H
  3. CH3CH2CHClCO2H>FCH2CO2H>CH3CO2H>C6H5CO2H
  4. FCH2CO2H>CH3CH2CHClCO2H>C6H5CO2H>CH3CO2H

Solution

Acidity is directly proportional to the -I,-M effect. The -I effect of the fluorine atom is higher than the chlorine atom. So, the FCH2CO2H has more acidity than the CH3CH2CHClCO2H. The benzoic acid has more acidic strength than the acetic acid because phenyl group show the -I effect but methyl group will show the +I effect.

So, the acidity order is :-

FCH2CO2H>CH3CH2CHClCO2H>C6H5CO2H>CH3CO2H
