The core used in transformers are laminated to
  1. increase the magnetic field.
  2. increase the level of the magnetic saturation of the core.
  3. reduce the residual magnetism in the core.
  4. reduce eddy current losses in the core.

Solution

There are many causes due to which energy is lost in transformer. Eddy current is one of them. So as to minimize the lost heat by eddy currents, the core of transformer is laminated.
