The area of the triangle formed by joining the origin to the point of intersection of the line x5+2y=35 and circle x2+y2=10 is
  1. 3
  2. 4
  3. 5
  4. 6

Solution

Length of perpendicular from origin to the line x5+2y=35 is

OL=3552+22=359=5

Radius of the given circle =10=OQ=OP

PQ=2QL

=2OQ2-OL2

=210-5=25

Thus, area of ΔOPQ=12×PQ×OL

=12×25×5=5 sq units

Hence, option (c) is correct.
