The area of the region x , y : x - 1 ≤ y ≤ 5 - x 2 is equal to

The area of the region x,y:x-1y5-x2 is equal to
  1. 52sin-135-12
  2. 5π4-32
  3. 3π4+32
  4. 5π4-12

Solution

Plotting region for x-1y5-x2, we get,

The intersection points of the curves x2+y2=5 and y=x-1 will be -1,2 & 2,1

Here chord AB subtends a right angle at the centre of the circle.
So, required area = area of ABC+ area of segment of circle on chord AB

=12AC·BC+ [area of quarter circle - area of AOB]

=12×2×22+90°360°×π52-12×52

=5π4-12
