The area of the region x , y :   x 2 ≤ y ≤ 8 - x 2 , y ≤ 7 is

The area of the region x,y: x2y8-x2,y7 is
  1. 27
  2. 18
  3. 20
  4. 21

Solution

The given curves are x2y, y8-x2 and y7

The point of intersection of the curves x2y and y8-x2 is obtained by,

x2=8-x2

x=±2 and y=4.

Hence the points are 2,4,-2,4.

The points of intersection of the curves y8-x2 and y7 is obtained by,

8-x2=7

x=±1 and y=7

Hence the points are 1,7,-1,7.

The required graph is

The required area is symmetrical about y-axis.

Hence required area is A=204ydy+478-ydy

A=2y323204-8-y 323247

=43432-032-8-732-8-432

=438-0-1+8

=20 sq units.

Hence, the required area is 20 sq units.
